What we mean when we say off course

Off course is a direction, not a mistake. What we actually mean when we say it, and the winemakers it's all for.
field notes Jul 24, 2026

Off course is a direction, not a mistake.

There are winemakers all over the world making genuinely great wine you will never hear about. Not because the wine isn't good enough, but because nobody handed them a platform. They're farming volcanic rock, reviving century-old vines their families planted, and working regions the industry drew right off the map. Some are the first in their family to own the land they grow on. Almost none of them have a marketing budget. We exist to change that.

Here's the whole job, plainly: we find them, we tell their story, and we bring their bottle to your table. Their somewhere-else, in your home. When you open one, you're not just drinking a wine. You're backing a specific person, in a specific place, who bet everything on doing it their way.

The wine stays serious. What we drop is everything that was never about the wine: the pretension, the rules, the sense that there's a right answer you're supposed to already know. There isn't. There's just good wine and the people behind it, and the only real question is whether you'd pour another glass.

This matters right now. Wine is at a turning point. The next generation drinks less, and drinks differently, and when they do reach for a bottle they want a story, a real person, a reason to care. The old playbook doesn't have one. The winemakers everyone overlooked have nothing but.

So: no gatekeeping, no homework, no rules you never agreed to. Just the best wine from the places the industry forgot, and the people bold enough to make it there.

We're building it now. The first bottles and first stories are close, and everyone on the list hears it first.

first pour, first stories

The people on our list hear everything first, and taste it before anyone else.
